Vung Tau: Two Teens Arrested for Robbing Russian Tourist

Police in Vung Tau ward, Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam have arrested two 17-year-old boys accused of snatching a mobile phone from a Russian tourist.

Vietnam private investigators, the suspects were taken into custody less than 18 hours after the incident.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 9:20 p.m. on September 26. The 42-year-old Russian woman was riding an electric bicycle along Vo Thi Sau Street when two teenagers approached her on a motorbike and grabbed her phone before speeding away.

After receiving the report, Vung Tau Ward Police worked with the Ho Chi Minh City Criminal Police Division to identify and locate the suspects.

Within 18 hours, officers identified and summoned T.C.N. and Đ.V.D., both residents of Tan Phuoc Ward, for questioning.

The two reportedly admitted that they had committed the robbery because they needed money for personal expenses.

Police said D. rode the motorbike while N. snatched the phone from the victim. Afterward, they allegedly sold the stolen device to a shop in Phu My Ward and divided the proceeds.

Authorities recovered the motorbike believed to have been used in the crime and retrieved the stolen phone. The device was subsequently returned directly to the Russian tourist.

The case remains under investigation, and authorities are continuing to determine the appropriate legal handling of the two suspects.
